Dimechi Herring, 41, passed away on Friday, April 3 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dimechi was many things; a loving husband to his wife, an amazing dad to his five kids and a beloved friend to those who had the honor of being a part of his life.
Professionally, Dimechi was a tenacious, talented and courageous law enforcement officer. Dimechi began his law enforcement career in 2004 with the Cape Girardeau Police Department. There, he was bitten by the “police bug” and wanted to serve his community fighting for those in need. In typical Dimechi fashion, wanting to do more, he sought and acquired a position as a Trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol (Recruit Class 86). Dimechi proudly served as a Trooper for nearly two years before beginning his career with ATF in 2008.
With ATF, Dimechi was assigned to the Kansas City Field Division, stationed in Kansas City, MO. Here the gentle giant eagerly found his place on the team as a new agent. He quickly learned the job and used his experience as a police officer and trooper to deal with the public and produce cases that truly impacted the communities he served. Dimechi was focused on making a difference; he wanted to help those he could and wanted to rid the neighborhoods of those who were wreaking havoc. Policing was in Dimechi’s blood, he had an uncle and two cousins who served as a police officers, a cousin as a special agent with ATF and his mother-in-law is a retired dispatcher with Cape Girardeau.
Dimechi was the best kind of friend. A constant encourager with an infectious smile, his positivity and genuine caring demeanor changed those around him for the better. He will be missed by so many, but by none more than his wife of nearly 15 years, Dawn and their children ages 17, 14, 13, 11 and 6. Dawn, a full time wife and mom, was his rock. She supported him, his career and their home- for as much as Dimechi loved police work and his law enforcement team, he LOVED his family. In addition to his wife and kids, he loved caring for and spending time with his mom and three sisters.
