On September 2, 2007, the NPDF traveled to Rome, Italy and donated a motorized wheelchair for eight-year-old Alessio Cirelli who suffers from a severe case of Multiple Sclerosis. When the Italian State Police and Vatican learned of this humanitarian gesture, the NPDF received a personal invitation to have a private audience with Pope Benedict XVI who blessed the boy and donated wheelchair. In addition, the NPDF established a medical fund for the boy who successfully underwent medical treatment in the United States. In recognition of the NPDF’s efforts, he received a “Special Achievement Award” from the Italian State Police. | |
