In 2004, the NPDF established a medical fund for a seven-year old Dominican boy who was battling leukemia. This case was brought to the NPDF’s attention by Leandro’s two neighbors, a New Jersey State Trooper and a Port Authority Police Officer. This family needed financial assistance to pay their mounting medical bills not covered by health insurance. The NPDF coordinated several fundraisers that included a charity bike ride that helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for the family. |
