The Police Officer Michael J. Buczek Little League was named in memory of NYPD Police Officer Michael J.Buczek who was killed by drug lords on October 18, 1988 while on duty in an area that was well known for drug activity in Washington Heights. NPDF Executive Director, Joe Occhipinti, who had been assigned to a NYPD task force that solved that homicide remembers Police Officer Buczek as being a dedicated and courageous officer who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The NPDF Operation Kids program became a proud sponsor of one of the baseball teams in memory of NYPD Sergeant John Couglin who was killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack while attempting to rescue victims trapped in the World Trade Center.

After 27 years, their goals are still strong, to keep children busy after school and on weekends so they remain off the streets. This league teaches the local youth Baseball skills and provides them with the opportunity to learn responsibility, commitment and about the dangers of crime and drugs while creating a bond and understanding between local Police and the community they serve. The teams are coached by Police Officers from the 34th Precinct and local residents.
