In the fall of 2012, the NPDF traveled to Quito, Ecuador and presented paraplegic Corporal Jorge Arias with a motorized wheel chair. The officer was the victim of a motor vehicle accident that resulted in his paralysis. During this humanitarian trip, the NPDF met with Lenin Moreno, the Vice President of Ecuador at which time who expressed appreciation for the humanitarian work performed by the NPDF on behalf of Corporal Arias and other disabled officers in Ecuador. In addition, the NPDF had a conference with U.S. Ambassador Adam Namm and US Aid Director, Andrew Herscowitz wherein they similarly commended his humanitarian efforts in Ecuador. They explained that these humanitarian projects were diplomatically important in U.S and Ecuador relations because it neutralized negative propaganda being made against the United States by their President who was politically aligned with the Presidents of Cuba and Venezuela. |
