ANY CURRENT MEMBER WHO PRESENTLY HAS AN ACTIVE NPDF NY LICENSE PLATE AND WANTS THE NEWLY DESIGNED PLATES CAN CONTACT THE SPECIAL PLATE UNIT DIRECTLY AT 518-402-4838 OR CAN DOWNLOAD AND COMPLETE THE (CP-30) APPLICATION FORM.
SAFE COP ORGANIZATIONAL LICENSE PLATE PROGRAM FOR NEW YORK
The NPDF is proud to offer members NPDF organizational license plates in New York. The federally trademarked “Safe Cop” organizational license plate program is available to current NPDF Law Enforcement and Associate Members.
There is a onetime DMV fee required to apply and you must maintain your NPDF membership every year to retain the plates. Safe Cop license plates are NOT sold to the general public and are NOT available at the DMV. Donors are eligible to become Associate Members and apply for these license plates.
NY DMV SAFE COP PLATES REQUIREMENTS

- Download the NY DMV Application
- Download the General Consent of Personal Information Form
- This form needs to be notarized and submitted with the proper payment.
- The DMV fee is $127 for regular plates and $158 for personalized plates.
- Check should be made payable to NPDF
- You must have 3 months left before expiration on your current registration
- The process usually takes 6 to 8 weeks
Complete the required NY DMV Application and General Consent of Personal Information Form and pay online using the online form or mail to the NPDF along with the proper payment. Please send all completed documents to the address noted below where your membership will be verified before being sent to the DMV on your behalf.

It is important for members who are in possession of NPDF Safe Cop license plates to know that the DMV will notify you that you must surrender your plates if your dues are not paid by March 15 2024. If you renew after March 15, 2024 deadline, there will be a $25 late fee accessed to process the notification to the DMV that you are again a member in good standing.
