Background
On November 7, 2017, DHS Special Agent Angel Echevarria was off duty with his wife and five children when another driver allegedly threatened the family, pointed a firearm at them, and attempted to run them over during a violent confrontation in Boca Raton, Florida. In an effort to protect his family, the agent discharged his weapon at the suspect’s vehicle as it fled the scene. Investigators later recovered the suspect vehicle along with a loaded firearm, drugs, and drug paraphernalia. Despite those findings, prosecutors pursued criminal charges against the federal agent instead of the suspect.
